The "3 - Star" Coat of Arms Issues of Latvia:
1923-1933
Latvia is a country in the Baltic Area of Europe located between Finland, Poland, Russia and Sweden. During the 1920's there were about 2.5 million people living there.

This exhibit is about the 1923 - 1925 (Wavy Line watermark) and 1927 - 1933 (Fire Cross watermark definitive issues of Latvia. This issue was made necessary by the official changing of currency from Kopeks/Rubels to Santimi/Lati in 1922. The stamps were designed with the country's coat of arms. During the issue's time of usage, these stamps were the most frequently and commonly used frankings. The stamps were used to pay for general postage, postal money orders, parcels, requests for payment and special services such as money orders sent via telegraph.
