Grants

In keeping with our educational, not-for-profit mission, NAPEX, Inc. offers grants funded by the profits from our annual stamp show.

National Postal Museum Scholarship

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum (NPM) and NAPEX are pleased to announce a joint scholarship for original research and analysis relating to the design and/or printing of a specific stamp issue(s) or relating to a concept, valuation, issuance, distribution, policy, and/or decision arising from the postal department/service arising in Washington, D.C. Postal history research will also be considered as long as the area of study is West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and/or the District of Columbia and the research findings are published.

These scholarships are available to PhDs, doctoral candidates engaged in dissertation research, advanced graduate students, and/or other scholars so that the awardee may spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research in the NPM library and other Washington D.C. libraries on their projects and discussing their work with others.

Interested persons, wherever resident, are invited to apply for these scholarships for scholarly research of postage stamps or postal history. The annual scholarship, for a sum up to $1,500, shall be a contribution toward expenses for a visit(s) to Washington D.C.

Applications are accepted year-round, with the deadline being September 1 of each year. Download an application form here. Do not send completed scholarship applications to NAPEX. All inquiries must be directed to:

Republication Grants

NAPEX provides financial grants up to $750 to support the reprinting of a previously published philatelic article or a series of related articles for sale or distribution to the collecting public. The article(s) must have previously appeared in the philatelic media and be deemed of significant interest and appeal to warrant wider dissemination to the collecting public. All requests for grants must be accompanied by cost estimates for publication, quantities and sale price. A statement indicating why the reprint is desired and a copy of the article(s) should also be included in the submission. A NAPEX Committee will review all applications. The decision of NAPEX is final and will be based upon the article's general appeal, quality and importance to philately. Winning entries will be notified immediately and grants will be distributed after publication of the reprint.
