| Ralph Irvin Sigler, Mechanicsville, Maryland, died on November 28, 1996 in Leonardtown, Maryland. Mr. Sigler, was born in 1924, served in the Second World War in the Italian Campaign where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He lived most of his life in Washington DC area where he spent 43 years working for the US Postal Service. He was survived by his wife Elinor, his daughter Donna Joy, six sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Sigler was an active collector of German stamps, and long time NAPEX Director. Mr. Sigler joined the Board of NAPEX in the 1960s and was instrumental in its growth and development as one of the country's top Philatelic Exhibitions. He was Bourse Chairman, Floor Manager, and Security Chairman of the annual NAPEX exhibition for over twenty years. He devoted most of his time to promoting the hobby and helped his daughter, Donna Joy Sigler (Joy Covers & Stamps) establish a stamp dealing business. His friends remember his unfaltering honesty in every endeavor he undertook. He was also interested in steam trains, John Wayne movies and big band music. A coach and friend to all who encountered him, he will sorely missed. The Board of NAPEX established a dealer award in his name which is given at its annual APS WSP show each June.
