The National Philatelic Exhibitions of Washington, DC, Inc. (NAPEX) is very pleased to announce Mr. Wilson Hulme's participation in a one-hour forum at NAPEX 2003 on Sunday, June 8, 2003 from 1-2 pm, at the McLean Hilton Hotel, Tysons Corner, Virginia. Mr. Hulme is the Smithsonian Institution's Curator of Philately at the National Postal Museum (NPM) where he has served since August 2002. During this forum, Mr. Hulme will give a presentation on his first year's experience at the NPM and offer his future vision for philately at the museum. Following this presentation, he will respond to questions from the audience.
Mr. Hulme is a life member of the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, having served on that organization's board of directors since 1996 and as vice president since 2000. He expertizes stamps and postal history for both the American Philatelic Society and The Philatelic Foundation. He is a life member of the American Philatelic Society, the Confederate Stamp Alliance, and the American Philatelic Research Library. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society, London and a member of the Collectors Club of New York. Mr. Hulme has published extensively, including original research on production of early postage stamps and attempts to perforate them.
Formerly, he served as Vice President of Operations at Nabisco International and held senior positions at Unilever and Frito-Lay, Inc. He began his career in the U.S. Navy and was the Chief Engineer Officer on a nuclear submarine. Mr. Hulme graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, and holds a master's degree from Michigan State University, and a MBA from Harvard Business School.
NAPEX will also host a static display for the NPM located at Table J in the atrium area at the McLean Hilton. Guests may obtain free literature about the NPM at this table and find information and applications about the benefits of membership in the NPM.
The NPM is currently featuring a fantastic exhibit titled "The 1847 Issue: America's First Stamp." The exhibit opened November 16, 2002 and shows rare stamps and covers that are grouped together for first and perhaps last time ever. These stamps will be on display at the NPM through June 9, 2003 so that all NAPEX visitors can view them. We encourage collectors to visit this historic exhibit while in the Washington, DC area. The display is made possible with the support and courtesy of Guido Craveri, Arthur Morowitz, and Thomas J. Alexander.
